Oral bioavailability reveals an overestimation of the toxicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in atmospheric particulate matter

چکیده

Abstract Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in atmospheric particulate matter have adverse effects on human health, yet total PAH concentrations should overestimate the toxicity compared to bioavailable amount of PAHs. To explore this hypothesis, we measured PAHs oral bioavailability vitro with aerodynamic diameter lower than 10 µm (PM ) using a test that mimics digestive system. This assay combines use simulated gastrointestinal fluids and dialysis membrane simulate intestinal absorption. Results show was below 5%, fluorene, anthracene, acenaphthene phenanthrene as most Data suggest no carcinogenic risk PM -bound following health assessment via inhalation-ingestion by benzo(a)pyrene-equivalent concentration hazard indexes. our best knowledge, is first research study estimation -associated

Bioavailability and potential carcinogenicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from wood combustion particulate matter in vitro.

Due to increasing energy demand and limited fossil fuels, renewable energy sources have gained in importance. Particulate matter (PM) in general, but also PM from the combustion of wood is known to exert adverse health effects in human. These are often related to specific toxic compounds adsorbed to the PM surface, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), of which some are known human ca...

Atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Mumbai, India

Atmospheric particulate PAH concentrations were measured at two locations in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. Total PAH concentrations (seven compounds) at Saki Naka and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) were 38.8 and 24.5 ng m~3. Pyrene and benz(a)anthracene#chrysene were abundant at both sites while benzo(b)#uoranthene and benzo(k)#uoranthene were abundant, in addition, at the IIT site. Th...

Concentrations of atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in particulate matter and the gaseous phase at roadside sites in Hanoi, Vietnam.

We analyzed the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in both particulate matter (PM) and the gaseous phase at 10 roadside sites in Hanoi, Vietnam. The average concentrations of 47 PAHs ( summation 47PAHs) were 63 +/- 82 ng m(-3) in PM and 480 +/- 300 ng m(-3) in the gaseous phase. The PAHs mainly originated from motorcycles without catalytic converters. The highest concentr...

Investigating the Presence of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Doogh

Background and purpose: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are one of the most common environmental pollutants that are proven to be carcinogenic and mutagenic. Doogh, is a widely consumed fermented yoghurt drink in Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the presence and concentration of PAHs in different brands of Doogh in Tehran, Iran. Materials and methods: In this study, we synt...

Suspended particulate matter transport of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the lower Columbia River and its estuary

Analysis of suspended particulate material (SPM) collected from the Columbia River and its estuary in 2007– 2008 revealed the ubiquitous presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from several distinct sources. The two dominant ones were: (1) a suite of non-alkylated, three to five-ringed compounds derived from high temperature combustion and (2) perylene, a compound of diagenetic orig...
